GreenEDGE Cycling confirms squad for 2025 Road Nationals

Dec 10, 2024

Australian WorldTour team GreenEDGE Cycling has announced a formidable squad that will go on the hunt for the elusive green-and-gold jerseys at the 2025 AusCycling Road National Championships in Perth this January.

With Australian champions Ruby Roseman-Gannon (Liv AlUla Jayco) and Luke Plapp (Team Jayco AlUla) already locked in, GreenEDGE has confirmed nine other riders who will race at RoadNats from January 8-12.

Joining Roseman-Gannon at the start line will be Liv AlUla Jayco teammates Georgia Baker, 2023 criterium champion Amber Pate and new signing for 2025, Josie Talbot.

Western Australia’s Mackenzie Coupland and Victoria’s Lucinda Stewart, will be chasing the under-23 women’s title for the Liv AlUla Jayco Women’s Continental Team.

Meanwhile, Plapp’s ambitions of winning his fourth consecutive road national title will be bolstered with the support of teammates Chris Harper, Luke Durbridge, Kelland O’Brien and Michael Hepburn.

Next year’s RoadNats will be particularly special for Perth’s Durbridge, who will relish racing on home roads and in front of home crowds.

“I am so happy and grateful to have the national championships in Perth. It will be a really memorable week for me and so nice to be able to race along the roads that I’ve grown up on and trained so many hours on,” the five-time national champion said.

“Having friends and family around to cheer and watch the race will also be very special, a lot of people that usually don’t get to see he race oversees will now have the chance to come to an event and I am just so glad to have this opportunity during my career.”

“I think for the sport too, it’s great to finally move the race from Buninyong after so many years and I hope it makes for some dynamic and exciting racing. We of course have triple champion Luke Plapp in the team and we’ll be doing everything we can to try and take the title once again. For us, it’s such an important race and for any Australian rider to be able to wear the green-and-gold stripes over in Europe is an honour.

“I can’t wait for the race, I’ve been training extra hard to try to be in the best shape possible for this Australian summer and it’s given me extra motivation having the Nationals in my hometown.”

GreenEDGE dominated the 2024 national championships, securing five national titles across the time trial, criterium and road race in Ballarat.

In the elite men’s road race, Team Jayco AlUla had a clean sweep of the podium.

Sport director Mat Hayman said both the men’s and women’s teams would be looking to carry last year’s success into Perth.

“It will be nice to race in Perth on a new course, this opens the race up to new tactics and a new style of racing,” Hayman said.

“We always come into the Nationals with high expectations to perform at home. The riders get excited by the prospect of winning that elusive green-and-gold jersey and taking it to Europe. In 2024 we had an amazing event across the men’s and women’s team winning all the national titles; that will be hard to beat.

“Lucas Plapp capped off a clean sweep of the men’s podium in the men’s road race to take his third consecutive win, he will be back to attempt to keep that record going.”
