Brodie Chapman achieves time trial national championship dream
Jan 9, 2025
Brodie Chapman has won the national title she longed-for in the elite women's individual time trial on a pulsating second day of the 2025 AusCycling Road National Championships in Perth, Western Australia.
The new UAE Team ADQ recruit conquered the three-lap, 28.8-kilometre course with an assured ride to win by 32 seconds over silver medallist Amber Pate (Liv AlUla Jayco).
Chapman posted a time of 39 minutes and 53 seconds, clocking an average speed of 42.42kph around the Bold Park circuit.
The Queenslander succeeds Grace Brown as the queen of Australian time trialling while adding to her road race national title from 2023, and her bronze and silver medals in the time trial from 2023 and 2024, respectively.
Chapman soaked up the moment in her typical jovial style at the finish when her victory was confirmed, but also shared an emotional embrace with partner Dan Bonello.
"Each year, my goal's always just to improve. I have to remind myself I've got a whole year of experience behind me. My team from the get-go put absolutely everything into dialling in my position and equipment. That made the biggest difference, I think, for me this year, was having a really great position and equipment from Team UAE ADQ," Chapman said.
"Once I had that, now it's just up to me to live up to the equipment, and so I'm glad that I could today. It does feel really good to wear this jersey in this discipline, I really like it.
"In October, I went to do aero testing at the velodrome, which is scary, because I don't really ride the track. It just means you can make those changes and really spend time in the position. Time in position, that specific, constant effort, has been what I'm focusing on, and that's pretty much it. Still just trying to enjoy it, not getting too psyched out, and wanting to go fast.
"When you want to improve and do see improvements, it definitely feels really good, but the sights are always set higher and higher.
"Now I've got to go back to Europe and there's a whole new level of competition there. So that's the next goal, to see how I can stay consistent and also continually improve.
"It's a game of improvements in the time trial, you're always wanting that little bit more. But ultimately, I've got to keep enjoying it."
