AusCycling Road National Championships to return to Ballarat in 2024
Aug 24, 2023
Australia’s most prestigious road cycling event will return to Ballarat in 2024.
With the continued support of the City of Ballarat, Federation University Australia and the Victorian Government, AusCycling is bringing the Road National Championships (RoadNats) back to Ballarat for another year.
The event will see Australia’s best elite, under-23, junior, club cyclists and para-cyclists battle it out on the roads of Ballarat and Buninyong from January 3–7 for the coveted green-and-gold national jerseys.
It comes as the City of Ballarat last night confirmed it would extend its support of RoadNats for one year.
AusCycling CEO Marne Fechner thanked the City of Ballarat, Federation University and the Victorian Government for their continued support.
“AusCycling is looking forward to the continued support of the City of Ballarat, Federation University and the Victorian Government to deliver this premier cycling event, which will showcase the very best of Australian cycling once again in Ballarat next year.
“Australian cycling continues to go from strength to strength, with a growing list of Aussie riders joining WorldTour and Women’s WorldTour teams. This month we saw a record-equalling 12 Australians line up for both the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes.
“And in less than a week, we will be cheering on the ARA Australian Cycling Team as they compete in Glasgow for the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships. We look forward to seeing these stars of Australian cycling back on home soil in January on the roads of Ballarat and surrounds.”
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Des Hudson said: “Being able to host the event for almost two decades has shown that we are more than capable of hosting large-scale and complex events on the national stage.”
“We value our collaborative relationship with AusCycling and acknowledge the positive impact the event has had on our city.”
“We understand the AusCycling board has decided to rotate the event elsewhere throughout Australia to reflect the national status of the event. We are hopeful that it will return to Ballarat in the not too distant future.”
Federation University Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Duncan Bentley is proud to support the RoadNats again in 2024.
“Federation University is proud to be the title partner for the Road National Championships in 2024. This is the seventh year that we’ve supported this prestigious event that brings Australia’s best cyclists to Ballarat and surrounding areas and which creates a real buzz in our community.
“Federation is recognised as one of the top 100 universities globally in the Sports Science discipline, and through our collaboration with AusCycling, our aim is to share our world-class expertise with athletes, teams, and the wider community during the staging of the event.”
Victoria’s Acting Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Ben Carroll said: “The Road Nationals will deliver big benefits to Ballarat when the event returns next year, showcasing the best of the region.”
