Para-cycling kicks off blockbuster Kings Park weekend

Nineteen national titles have been awarded in Perth this morning in the para-cycling, transplant, hearing impaired and athlete with intellectual impairment categories in the Westbridge Funds Road National Championships.

Riders were buffeted by a powerful easterly wind all race long as they conquered up to five laps of the 13.5-kilometre circuit through Kings Park and the Perth CBD.

Reigning world champions Tahlia Clayton-Goodie and Alana Forster were among the winners, while local Perth riders including Andrew Bannister (Midland) and Kate Burton (Northern Beaches) featured prominently in the results.

The races were preceded by a moment's silence in memory of Paige Greco, a champion Australian para-cyclist who tragically passed away last year.

Today's para-cycling event kicked off a weekend of road race s in the Western Australian capital, culminating in the elite men's and women's races on Sunday.
