STEADYRACK GRAN FONDO SAFETY NOTES

Safety Notes

  1. Be Visible: Ensure your bike is equipped with a working front white light and rear red light, as per the guidelines.
  2. Stay Hydrated: Carry two full water bottles to keep yourself refreshed throughout the race, and any food or nutrition you may need, and you should have sunscreen slathered on all exposed skin.
  3. Caution: The circuit has a tight turn from King’s Park Avenue to Mounts Bay Road at 8.1km onto the circuit.  Please ride to your ability and take this turn with caution.
  4. Check that your bike is in good working order: Give those brakes a squeeze and check your tyres, and of course you must be wearing a helmet. You should have two numbers on the back of your jersey as well as a number on your saddle containing an RFID transponder. Remember, no transponder means no time.
  5. Respect Each Other: Stay aware of your fellow riders and maintain predictable lines. Signal clearly if you are changing direction – using hand and verbal signals.  Our neutral start for the first kilometre ensures everyone eases into the race safely. Please DO NOT pass the lead motorcycle during this neutral zone.
  6. Ride Etiquette: All riders should always use caution and be aware of their fellow competitors. This means no aggressive or sudden changes in riding line or any manoeuvre that might endanger others. There will be a motorcycle marshal in front of the first riders on the road. If this motorcycle passes you and gives a double horn tap, that means you are about to be lapped by the faster riders. Once lapped, please continue your rider but endeavour to stay to the far left of the road, as to not impede those faster riders and for your own safety.
  7. Listen to Marshals: Follow instructions from motorcycle marshals and course officials. They’re here to keep us all safe.
  8. You have 6 laps of the course to make up 81km – and each rider is responsible for counting their own laps. All riders must start their final lap by 9:45 AM to have the ability to finish at the official finish line – you will be removed from the course if you do not start your final lap before 9:00 AM. It is the responsibility of each rider to keep track of their own lap number. Due to multiple categories racing on the course at once it is not possible for the event organisers to advise riders of their lap number throughout the event. If you are unable to finish the laps you will receive a time that is placed after those who have completed all laps.
  9. The SteadyRack GranFondo is held on closed roads – but you must not deviate from the course, which is marked with yellow arrows.
  10. Finally, if you run into any strife, there are mechanics at the start finish line, and there is a SAG wagon following at the back, so signal for help if you need it, and move safely to the left-hand side of the road.

Remember, a safe rider is a confident rider.
